Summer fun in the park

My little munchkins love the park so over the summer holidays they wanted to go everyday!

Their two favourite nearby parks are Cassiobury Park, Watford and Westwood Park, Little Chalfont.

Cassiobury Park Watford, Hertfordshire WD18 7LB

Cassiobury Park is the largest public open space in Watford comprising of over 190 acres (77 hectares) of green space stretching from Watford town centre to woodland and countryside to the west of the town.

The park contains a wide variety of sports facilitiesattractions for children and parts of the park are designated as a Local Nature Reserve. Cassiobury Park is one of Watford’s most popular attractions receiving around 800,000 visits per year and hosting a number of popular sporting and entertainment events.

There is lots to do with kids and most of the activities are free.  Children’s activities include:

Paddling Pools Playground
This play area just below the paddling pools is suitable for children up to the age of 14. It contains swings, numerous climbing frames and slides, a granite stone maze and even a trampoline and zip wire!

Cha Cha Cha Playground
Smaller than the Paddling Pool Playground this playarea located directly alongside the Cha Cha Cha cafe and arts centre caters for younger children and toddlers up to the age of 6. An enclosed grassy area contains picnic tables with toilet facilities and refreshments available in the cafe.

Paddling Pools
Three pools of varying size and depth are open daily between 10am and 6pm from Good Friday to mid September. Entry is free and toilets and refreshments are available in the adjacent buildings. The paddling pools are located alongside a playground and are near to the miniature railway.

NB: The paddling pools are due to close in mid-September 2015, and will remain closed throughout 2016 as they are refurbished as part of the heritage works – aiming to reopen around Easter 2017

Bungee Trampolines (charge applies)
Temporary attraction during school summer holidays, located near the paddling pools. Open daily from roughly late morning to 4pm depending on weather conditions.  Under 12 year olds only, charge applies.

Miniature Railway (charge applies)
The 10.25 inch gauge miniature railway has over half a kilometre of tracks and a variety of steam and diesel locomotives. Services run on weekends, bank holidays and in school holidays throughout the year. Costs £1.50 per person (May 2015). For history and locomotive information see Miniature Railway World.

Bouncy Castle (charge applies)
At weekends and during school holidays in the summer a variety of bouncy castles may be found at this location. Suitable for children 14 and under.

My kids enjoyed the playground area, paddling pool and family picnics.

Westwood Park, Chenies Avenue, Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire HP6 6PP

This is our local park which includes woodland, tennis courts, basketball court, football pitch and a children’s playing area with swings, slides, small trampoline, outdoor gym equipment and climbing-frames all of which is enclosed. The park is used by ramblers as part of longer walks, dog-walkers and sports enthusiasts. The park hosts football matches on its full-size pitch, and is the home ground for the local club. There is a gravelled car-park and a park-keeper’s house on site.

It is a great park close to home, there is no cafe or toilet facilities but this doesn’t bother us. My little munchkins always have a fab time there.
