Review: TerraNova Synergistic Nutrition

Do you take a daily vitamin?

I regularly take various supplements to ensure that I’m getting the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes my body needs for optimal health.

With the vast array of supplements out there, it can be very hard to choose.

Not all supplements are created equal!

I’m a firm believer in consumers making informed choices.

Just because a product is on the shelves and the label has all the right ‘buzz’ words doesn’t mean its all that!

Knowledge is key…do your research, know what’s in your supplements and why, check the labels thoroughly and be ingredient smart, otherwise you could be harming your body and your wallet!

Synthetic supplements, additives and what’s wrong with them?

Majority of the vitamin and mineral supplements on the shelves are synthetic.  They are basically isolated man-made chemical compounds manufactured in a lab and are different from the same nutrients found in natural food sources.

Basically all they  do is mimic the way natural vitamins work in the body but they are not bio-available.  Our bodies can’t recognise or utilise these ingredients, they can block the absorption of nutrients and over time can be toxic!

Just like many processed foods, majority of the mainstream supplements on the shelves are loaded with additives, fillers, binders, anti-caking agents, lubricants, disintegrants, coating agents, sweeteners, colouring agents, flavouring agents etc.

Manufacturers use them for a number of reasons but frankly they make their processes quicker and cheaper and in no way benefit our bodies.

I always look for companies I can trust and whose philosophy reflects total wellness.

One of my favourite brands is TerraNova Synergistic Nutrition.

Terranova is a multi-award winning supplement company with a range of more than 60 different nutritional and botanical products. Formulated and manufactured in Britain, Terranova is one of only a few large-scale supplement companies in the industry that does not use fillers, binders and other manufacturing additives in its products, and one of even fewer such companies that is 100% suitable for vegans.

What’s great about TerraNova products is they are 100% additive free.

All Terranova products are in either 2-piece vegetarian capsules, powder or liquid form, instead of tablets.

They have a wide range of products and I chose these 3 products to review:

TerraNova Living Multinutrient Complex 100 caps

Key Ingredients

Spirulina

Spirulina is one of nature’s richest sources of plant pigments.  It contains an abundance of valuable nutrients, and highly digestible protein (it’s actually considered a complete source of protein, making it a favourite with vegetarians).

Green Barley Grass

Barley grass contains a wide array of important health-giving compounds including chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments, easily digested protein (approximately 30%), fibre, vitamins, minerals and several important enzymes (such as the potent antioxidant superoxide dismutase [SOD]).

Stabilised Rice Bran (SRB)

SRB has one of nature`s highest concentrations of the vitamin E-related compounds tocopherols and tocotrienols, as well as B-vitamins, fibre, essential fatty acids, minerals and more than 100 different antioxidant compounds

Sea Buckthorn Berry & Leaf

A very high content of vitamin E (bothtocopherols and tocotrienols), vitamin C and plant pigments such as flavonoids and carotenoids make sea buckthorn one of the most powerful antioxidant plants ever studied. Sea buckthorn is also noted for its concentration of omega 7 fats, which are less well known than omega 3, 6 and 9, but are highly regarded for their potential health and beauty applications.

Acai Berry

Acai is one of the highest ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) value fruits with signiificant concentrations of vitamin E, anthocyanin flavonoids, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and other antioxidant compounds. Acai berries also yield a remarkably high quantity of fatty acids and fibre.

Alfalfa Flower & Leaf

Among other important compounds, alfalfa supplies the plant pigments chlorophyll and carotenoids, vitamins (especially vitamin K), minerals, fibre, protein, isoflavones and sterols.

Dandelion Leaf

One of nature`s most nourishing plants, dandelion provides an array of vitamins and minerals, as well as carotenoids and many other health-giving phytonutrients. It is also known for its supportive role in detoxification.

Nettle Leaf

An excellent source of many vitamins and minerals, nettle is one of nature`s most concentrated sources of calcium, magnesium, boron and iron.

Turmeric Root

In addition to its content of micronutrients, turmeric root is renowned for the antioxidant and detoxification supportive properties of its naturally-occurring curcuminoids.

Wheat Grass Juice

Wheat grass juice is rich especially rich in chlorophyll, carotenoids, various vitamins and minerals as well as important protective enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD).

Green Tea Leaf

Although green tea is an unusually potent source of certain nutrients, such as manganese, it is best known for its high concentration of powerful antioxidant polyphenols.

Watercress

A true superfood, the levels of so many important nutrients in watercress range from good to excellent – most notably carotenoids, flavonoids, glucosinolates (which convert into isothiocyanates), vitamins A and C, folic acid, vitamin K, calcium and iron.

Kale

Kale is a good source of many nutrients, with carotenoids and sulphur-rich antioxidants such as sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol being among the most important.

Pomegranate Seed

This fruit is especially rich in antioxidant compounds such as punicalagins, anthocyanosides, catechins and carotenoids – accounting for its high ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) value.

Blackberry

Blackberries are among the highest ORAC rated antioxidant fruits and are a potent source of anthocyanin flavonoids and carotenoids (i.e. zeaxanthin, lutein, beta carotene and cryptoxanthin).

Black Raspberry

Black raspberries also rate very high in ORAC value, with potent antioxidant flavonoids and carotenoids being especially prominent. This fruit has a particularly high level of lutein and alpha carotene.

My thoughts

I just finished taking all 3 supplements.  I took 2 capsules a day for a total of 50 days and I’ve had very positive results.

  • The capsules are very easy to swallow.
  • The combination of these supplements helped give my body the boost it needed.
  • I can concentrate and focus better, I have more energy and stamina which is much needed with my overactive toddlers.
  • My immune system is stronger, I’ve been able to avoid the dreaded cold and flu the kids have had.
  • My nails are in a much better state – no more brittle nails.
  • My skin has definitely improved
  • My hair is thicker, I have less breakage and I’ve noticed hair growth 🙂

It has been such a busy few months, with Christmas and taking my daughter to her hospital appointments, juggling family life and organising birthday parties.  Normally I would be run down but taking these supplements have definitely made a difference and I’m going to stick to them.

I have enjoyed using these products and will stock up on more.  I also have my eye on a few other products I want to try including the Green Child range.

I hope you found this post helpful.  Please feel free to share your thoughts with me.

Remember supplements are not a substitute…just as the name suggests they are intended to be a supplement to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Have a lovely weekend,

Lola 😊

      1. I want to try their Bilberry Lutein & Astaxanthin Complex to help my eye health. My eyes are pretty bad and now I’m wearing varifocal glasses.

  1. Terra nova products are the best. I have tried other supplements, all with negative effects. My regime for a couple of years has been to take at breakfast one of their probiotic capsules (recently rebranded as “microflora”). To this, I’ve recently added two capsules daily of their Green Child multinutrients — I wanted to start slowly with dosages, hence the children’s supplement rather than the adult one. Also, I have some cod liver oil capsules in the cupboard that I don’t want to waste or to overdose on Vits A & D. I take their non-acidic Vitamin C with my evening meal, for a boost of this important, cell-renewing supplement, which has the added advantage of preventing, rather than causing acid reflux in the night. I have also taken the Astragalus one from time to time to fight off germs. The only one that hasn’t suited me, is the Vitamin B complex, as it upsets my stomach and gives me insomnia. Apart from that, I’m a very happy customer:-)
