Celebrating World Book Day 2017

World Book Day is back!  This year marks its 20th anniversary.

” World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.”

With kids today heavily into their gadgets and technology, we try to encourage our kids to regularly pick up a book and read.  Luckily they enjoy us reading to them and on their own.

Each year I love getting involved with World Book Day and helping the kids decide which book character they want to dress up as.

I’m not the DIY costume maker mum so it was off to the shops to buy a ready-made costume.  This year Josiah had a bit of a meltdown and decided he didn’t want to dress up.

Annaliese was excited (any excuse to dress up) and decided to go as Jesse from Toy Story.

There’s a new cow girl in town…Yee-haw!!!

It was great to walking to school and seeing all of the amazing kids costumes, and seeing the teachers dressed up as well.

Annaliese had a lovely day at preschool, and what’s great is she came home with a book token so we can add to our book library.

” Thanks to National Book Tokens and lots of lovely book publishers and booksellers, World Book Day, in partnership with schools all over the country, will be distributing more than 15 million £1 World Book Day book tokens to children (that’s almost one for every child/young person under 18 in the UK and Ireland).”

They can take their voucher to a local bookseller and can use it to pick one of TEN (exclusive, new and completely free) books. Or, if they’d rather, they can use it to get £1 off any book or audio book costing over £2.99 at a participating bookshop or book club (terms and conditions apply).

Happy World Book Day.  Let’s get our kids to love reading!
