“When asked if I’d create an essential oil free range, suitable for expectant mothers and those with skin sensitivities, I thought it unlikely – since we are so well known for our aromatic fragrant blends. Yet everything has a scent, and so I set out to explore raw ingredients that offer both an aromatic journey and unparalleled skincare benefits. This is the result.”
I was invited to be part of the focus group to try out the products prior to the launch last month and give some feedback. As always Elijah’s creativity and passion comes through in his products. Honestly he is an amazing man and I admire the labour of love he pours into creating each product.
I absolutely enjoyed using each product and it was such a hard choice to choose my favourite full size product afterwards as a gift. But I decided to choose the Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask.
Bodhi & Birch Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask 80g | £60
A skin refining facial exfoliant and mask featuring Korean Ginseng, Astragalus, Wild Yam, Cat’s Claw, Montmorillonite and Kaolin Clays, plus Raw Cacao and fruit powders.
Renshen is Mandarin for Ginseng. Pure healing clays are infused with adaptogens Ginseng and Astragalus to purify and replenish vital energy. Ginseng possesses phytonutrients and antioxidants to boost collagen and cellular regeneration. Astragalus increases skin elasticity and texture, along with Cacao and fruit powders to refine, balance and brighten skin.

Organic Korean Ginseng
The most highly regarded herb in the Orient, Ginseng is shown in medical studies to be highly effective in fighting wrinkles due to its ability to boost skin-firming collagen. It possesses valuable phytonutrients and antioxidants that is scientifically shown to encourage skin healing and boost cellular regeneration, and give skin a brighter and more youthful appearance.
Organic Astragalus
A highly prized Oriental herb for its detoxing and tonification capabilities. Astragalus has been proven to increase skin’s hyaluronic acid production so that it remains youthful for longer. It triggers skin’s natural collagen-producing ‘fibroblasts’ cells and prevents the breakdown of elastin protein, thus helping to increase the elasticity, tone and texture of the skin.
Organic Wild Yam
Wild Yam is contains diosgenin, a specific steroidal saponin. Diosgenin is an anti-inflammatory, and has been suggested to enhance DNA synthesis in human skin while restoring skin cells. It is also believed to be effective as a depigmenting agent in the skin, potentially helping to reduce the appearance of unwanted dark spots and inhibiting the occurrence of new hyper-pigmentation.
Organic Cat’s Claw Vine
Originating from the Amazonian Basin, Cat’s Claw possesses antiviral, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies show it boasts a broad spectrum of biological activity including the ability to enhance DNA repair on human skin. This remarkable benefit helps to speed up the skin’s healing process and stimulates skin cell regeneration.
Montmorillonite & Kaolin Clays
Montmorillonite is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays. Containing a high assortment of minerals including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, silica and sodium, its unique negatively-charged particles attracts dirt and grime on the skin’s surface. Kaolin Clay possesses gentle absorptive properties effective for pulling impurities to the surface to leave skin deeply cleansed and bright. It’s ability to stimulate skin circulation can offer a toned and tightened appearance.
Organic Rosehip, Grape Skin, Pineapple & Banana
Rosehip contains the highest natural concentrations of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and bioflavonoids to maintain a healthy skintone and promote cell regeneration. Grape Skin is high phytonutrients, including Resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant with potent anti-aging properties. Pineapple contains the fruit enzyme bromelain, an effective exfoliant that sloughs off dead cells while imparting cleansing and invigorating benefits. Banana is rich in both potassium and Vitamin A to keep skin healthy.
Organic Raw Cacao
Cacao is a superfood powerhouse for its high antioxidant levels. Containing high levels of polyphenol antioxidants, it protects our skin from premature ageing. An anti-inflammatory skin soother, it is naturally rich in flavonoids to slow the ageing process, repair and prevent additional damage, and support healthy collagen production.
Mix a teaspoon with drops of water until blended to a creamy paste. Gently massage into skin with circular movements avoiding eye area. Rinse. Alternatively mix with Avo Bao Cleansing Balm and apply as a face mask. Leave for 10 minutes before rinsing. Follow with Super25 Botanical Serum.
Tips: Blend with any combination of the Superfoods Series to create a bespoke skincare ritual. Alternatively mix with yogurt or honey to apply as a mask.
You all know how much I love using powder masks and this one is an absolute treat. The ingredients are pretty impressive. I can tell a lot of thought and detail went into picking each ingredient. It has a herbal and earthy aroma from Korean Ginseng, Astragalus, Liquorice and Dandelion, with subtle hints of Pineapple and Banana, followed by rich chocolate from Raw Cacao.
It is a great multi-use product so you can create your own mix to suit your needs. Here are some of the ways I used it:

- Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask + Avo Bao Cleansing Balm = Rich Exfoliating balm
- Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask + Avo Bao Cleansing Balm + Lemon Water Hydrosol Tonic = Emulsifying Exfoliator
- Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask + Tomato Seed Cleansing Fluid = Deep Exfoliating Cleanser
- Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask + Super25 Botanical Serum + Lemon Water Hydrosol Tonic = Superfood Face Mask
Now twice a week I use it as an exfoliant mixed with water. It gently buffs my skin and leaves it super smooth, soft and refined. I also enjoy mixing it with honey as a face mask. After rinsing my skin is incredibly smooth, soft, balanced and more radiant.
