We are all familiar with the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays on our skin, but what about the harmful effects of blue light rays?
The latest research has shown that blue light emitted from the sun and our digital devices is also damaging to our skin.
What exactly is ‘blue light’?
Blue light also known as high-energy visible light (HEV light) is a colour in the “visible light spectrum” that can be seen by the human eye.
Blue light has a wavelength of between approximately 380nm and 500nm; making it one of the shortest, highest-energy wavelengths.
Sunlight is the largest source of blue light. Other sources include digital screens (TVs, computers, laptops, smart phones and tablets), electronic devices, and fluorescent and LED lighting.
Many of us spend hours on end staring at digital screens. I’ll put my hands up and say I spend a significant amount of time on my phone. According to Apple Screen time I spend on average 9hrs a day on my iphone.
Over exposure to blue light can damage our eyesight, disrupt our sleep pattern and contribute to skin damage and photoageing.

I’m a huge fan of SKN-RG and trust in the science behind founders Deborah & Robert Scott’s high performance formulations. It took two years in the design and formulation of Alpha Serum to create “the” total serum capable of lifting, smoothing and protecting against harmful Blue light and UV in one single drop without the use of questionable ingredients.
This emulsifier free serum has a light and silky consistency and sweet floral scent.
Held within the gel are tiny microspheres derived from plankton species that in response to harmful light created a blue glass diamond flower around themselves for protection.
As with all SKN-RG products, the formulation is concentrated so a little goes a long way. I love the packaging, it has a lock and twist pump (handy to prevent spilling when travelling).
After cleansing while my skin is still damp, I apply one pump to my fingertips and smooth over my face and neck. It sinks in quickly and once it has fully absorbed, I apply my moisturiser.
My skin appears brighter and feels incredibly soft, smooth and hydrated afterwards. It is also a great base for makeup, my foundation blends smoothly.
Lastly lets talk price, it retails for £75 so its a huge splurge. Like I said earlier it is highly concentrated and the bottle lasted me 6 weeks which is great.
