Many of us already know that Vitamin C is an essential vitamin that plays a vital role in our health and wellbeing. It is necessary for over 300 chemical reactions in the body as well as building and repairing all body tissues.
It is one of the most proven, well-established and powerful immune boosting, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, anti-viral, anti-microbial, anti-pathogenic and anti-toxin nutrient known to man.
Vitamin C contributes to:
- the normal function of the immune system
- the protection of cells from oxidative stress
- the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
- normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, cartilage, gums, teeth, bones, blood vessel
- normal energy-yielding metabolism
- maintain the normal function of the immune systemduring and after intense physical exercise
- normal functioning of the nervous system
- normal psychological function
- the regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E
- Vitamin C supplements can increase iron absorption
As our bodies cannot make Vitamin C on its own or store it, we have to source it from our food or supplements.
I’ve tried a wide range of Vitamin C supplements – from chewable tablets, capsules, powders and liquids. The main problem with these forms is how much our bodies can absorb as much of it is flushed from the body after ingestion.
I recently made the switch to a more bioavailable form of Vitamin C which is Altrient® Liposomal Vitamin C.
Altrient® is manufactured by LivOn Labs who pioneered the world’s first liposomal vitamin C supplement in 2004 using a patented process to deliver absorption levels never before thought possible in the vitamin c supplement industry.
Altrient’s patented process uses only the finest ingredients to produce, what we believe to be, the most pure and perfect liposomal supplements in the world. Altrient’s cutting-edge Liposomal Encapsulation Technology (LET) shields nutrients from stomach acid, securing a safe path to the small intestine where they are absorbed into the blood stream. Thanks to their precise composition Altrient’s liposomes are able to overcome cellular absorption barriers to deliver nutrients directly into the cells, where they are needed most.
Why Liposomal Vitamin C?
Most ordinary forms of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in tablets, capsules, powders, liquids and even dietary sources are water-soluble. Although our bodies contain a lot of water, the structure of our cells is made of lipids—fat. As we know, oil (fat) and water do not mix; they repel each other. This means that water-soluble vitamin C is not absorbed very well into our cells where it is most needed.
Only very low doses of standard vitamin C can be well absorbed by the body; the higher dosage you take, the lower the absorption rate! At the commonly recommended 1,000 mg dose, your body can absorb less than half of what you ingest. Thus, very little reaches your blood stream let alone the cells where it is needed most. At best, the body can only absorb up to 200mg of standard vitamin C at a time, the rest is rapidly eliminated from the body through the urine. Much higher doses can cause gastric distress including gas, cramps and diarrhoea. .
This is where liposomal Vitamin C comes in….
Liposomal technology is able to increase the absorption of nutrients by capturing the active ingredients inside protective membranes called liposomes. These tiny liposomal bubbles consist of bi-layers of phospholipid molecules (similar to your own body’s cell membranes), that protect the contents and manage to by-pass the digestive juices to deliver the vitamin C directly to the cells. This liposome makes vitamin C fat-soluble (instead of water-soluble) and more easily transported into our cells, where it can be used. The benefit of having the dose in a liposomal form is that virtually all the vitamin C gets into the bloodstream and any issues of bowel discomfort associated with ascorbic acid are bypassed.
With liposomal encapsulation technology it is possible to:
- Wrap nutrients in double layered phospholipid membrane, similar to cell membranes
- Protect nutrients from being destroyed in the gut
- Provide maximised absorption into the bloodstream as intact liposomes
- Transport nutrients directly to the cells where they are needed most
- Achieve a more sustained release of nutrients
- Protect nutrients from oxidation, pH and temperature
- Prevent nutrients being utilised by gut microbiome

I love the convenience of daily sachets, they are easy to use and carry while I’m on the go. I simply have to empty the sachet into a small amount of water and drink it in one gulp. It doesn’t affect the taste of the water so it’s easy to drink.
The results so far have been impressive. It has definitely helped to boost my immunity, energy levels and my skin health. It is rather pricey, but it delivers outstanding results. I value my health and I would say it is well worth the price.
