There is something deeply grounding about skincare that feels like it was made with real hands, real care, and real intention. I was recently contacted by The Scalise Family Sheep Farm—a family- and veteran-run small business in Wilton, New Hampshire—and they were kind enough to send me two of their signature products to try.
Based in the rolling hills of Wilton, New Hampshire, The Scalise Family Sheep Farm is proving that the best skincare doesn’t come from a lab—it comes from the pasture.

For generations, our family has served our neighbors and country in any way we could. After retiring from the US Army, we wanted to try giving back differently. After exploring equine therapy options and service animals available to veterans, we fell in love with the Icelandic Sheep. These beautiful animals have helped to provide our family with love and companionship. Sheep can provide much in the way of natural products, including milk and wool. Working with these products, we seek to make our product with the fewest ingredients possible and only use ingredients from natural sources. No chemicals and only genuine love for our new four-legged friends.
Our products are handcrafted by skilled artisans on our family farm, using fresh sheep milk and natural ingredients. We combine traditional methods with careful, small-batch crafting to create soaps and balms that nourish, hydrate, and protect your skin. Every ingredient is chosen for its quality and effectiveness, ensuring your skin receives only the best.
I’ve spent the last month trying out their Frankincense Skin Balm and Three Wise Men Sheep Milk Soap.

Three Wise Men Sheep Milk Soap – Frankincense & Myrrh Handmade Farm Soap
A luxurious soap inspired by the gifts of the Three Wise Men.
Our Three Wise Men Sheep Milk Soap is handcrafted in small batches using nourishing sheep milk from our family farm. This unique bar is made with real frankincense resin, frankincense essential oil, and myrrh essential oil—ingredients historically valued for their rich aroma and skin-loving properties.
The addition of delicate gold flakes gives this soap a beautiful, elegant appearance, making it a perfect seasonal gift or a special addition to your daily skincare routine.

Ingredients at a Glance
- Sheep Milk – Naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, and creamy fats that help soften and moisturise the skin.
- Coconut Oil – Adds gentle cleansing power and a rich, creamy lather.
- Olive Oil – Known for its soothing, conditioning benefits, helping to keep skin smooth and hydrated.
- Frankincense Resin – Offers a warm, resinous aroma and has been valued for centuries for its calming and rejuvenating qualities.
- Frankincense Essential Oil – Enhances the scent while supporting skin comfort and balance.
- Myrrh Essential Oil – Adds depth to the fragrance and brings its own traditionally cherished skin‑soothing properties.
- Gold Flakes – A delicate, elegant touch that gives the bar its luxurious, gift‑worthy appearance.

How to Use
Lather the soap with warm water and apply to hands or body. Massage gently into the skin and rinse thoroughly.

This soap design is absolutely charming and instantly made me smile. The bar moulded into a detailed, curly-wooled sheep and gentle curves is almost too adorable to use – it feels more like a small piece of artisanal sculpture than a bath product.
Sheep milk is naturally higher in fats and vitamins than goat or cow milk, and you can feel that the moment the soap hits water. The lather isn’t just “bubbly”—it’s creamy, soft, cushioning and gentle on sensitive skin. It cleans without stripping — no tightness, no dryness.
What makes this soap even more special is the way it quietly echoes the Christmas story. With real frankincense resin, frankincense essential oil, myrrh essential oil and delicate gold flakes — the very gifts brought to Jesus by the Magi — this bar feels like a small moment of reverence woven into your everyday routine.
The scent is beautifully warm and comforting — the kind of fragrance that makes you slow down for a moment. The blend of frankincense resin, frankincense essential oil, and myrrh essential oil creates a softly spiced, resinous aroma that feels both grounding and gently uplifting.
Handmade Frankincense Skin Balm
Our Frankincense Skin Balm is a handcrafted moisturizing balm designed to nourish and protect your skin in dry, harsh conditions. This balm contains therapeutic-grade frankincense oil, an ingredient widely used in skincare for supporting skin health and improving overall skin appearance. Frankincense helps strengthen the skin barrier, improve elasticity, and promote a more even complexion.

The formula also includes lanolin and natural oils that lock in moisture and help repair dry or damaged skin. Lanolin is particularly effective because it can absorb large amounts of water while maintaining the skin’s protective barrier, allowing longer-lasting hydration compared to many standard moisturizers. Handmade on our family farm, this balm is designed for people who want simple, natural skincare that works.

Ingredients at a Glance
- Olive Oil — A gentle, nourishing oil that helps soften and condition the skin without feeling heavy.
- Beeswax — Gives the balm its lovely, protective texture and helps lock in moisture.
- Shea Butter — Rich, creamy, and deeply moisturising — perfect for soothing dry or irritated skin.
- Mango Butter — Lightweight but nourishing, adding a silky feel and helping the balm melt beautifully into the skin.
- Lanolin — A natural skin‑softener that mimics the skin’s own oils, making it brilliant for dry patches.
- Frankincense Essential Oil — Adds that warm, grounding scent while offering calming, skin‑comforting benefits.

The moment you twist open this tin, you’re met with that unmistakable, resinous scent of frankincense—earthy, slightly sweet, and instantly meditative.
The balm itself is beautifully smooth—not waxy, not greasy, just a soft, melt-into-your-skin consistency. It warms quickly under your fingertips, making it incredibly easy to apply. It leaves a gentle sheen rather than a heavy layer, which feels protective without being sticky.
It is particularly effective for:
- Dry or cracked skin
- Hands, elbows, and rough heels
- Patches of irritation
- Daily moisturising
Beyond just moisturising, I’ve found this balm has a therapeutic use and love applying it to my temples. Frankincense is the “King of oils” for a reason — the warm, woody, slightly sweet aroma that feels ancient and comforting all at once acts as a “calm-down” button for my brain—perfect for high-stress moments and cutting through “brain fog” or as a ritual right before bed to signal to my body that it’s time to unwind.
What I love most about The Scalise Family Sheep Farm products isn’t just the results — it’s the transparency behind them.
