Shea Moisture Hair Care Review

Shea Moisture was the first brand I used when I went natural.  They are a family run business that was established in 1912.

They are a growing brand and have products to suit the entire family including hair, bath, body, men, baby & mummy and face products.  They say NO to:

  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Paraffin
  • Formaldehyde
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Mineral Oil
  • Synthetic Fragrance
  • Petrolatum
  • Synthetic Color
  • DEA
  • Animal Testing

The first products I used were Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine ShampooShea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner and Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

They have become some of my staple hair products over the years.  They have a variety of  hair care collections to suit various hair needs including kinky, curly, colour treated, chemically processed, dry, damaged or frizzy hair.  I was very excited to hear about their launch in major UK high street retailer Boots stores and online.

Over the weekend they launched a 3 for 2 offer so I decided to visit my local Boots store and stock up.

I usually buy my hair products online and for the first time I was face to face with some of my favourite products.  I settled for a shampoo and 2 deep treatment masques which I use regularly.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo

Description:

A clarifying, Sulfate-free shampoo that removes product build-up, while infusing hair with moisture. Leaves hair soft and shiny. Gentle enough to use every day. Promotes growth by nourishing and strengthening damaged or chemically processed hair, reducing the appearance of breakage and shedding. Apple Cider Vinegar aids in regulating and balancing pH levels on the scalp, while softening hair to promote enhanced growth.

I co-wash my hair every week and once a month I use a shampoo to remove product build-up.  This is a great shampoo, it lathers well as it clarifies and thoroughly cleanses my hair without stripping it.  It has a nice scent (most people compare it to playdoh).  I l also love that it comes in a big bottle as my hubby uses it too so it will last a long time!

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Treatment Masque

Description:

This deep conditioning masque restores strength and resilience to damaged, brittle or chemically processed hair. Perfect for those who regularly color, straighten, perm or heat style their hair, as well as kinky, curly or wavy natural styles. Helps promote growth by supporting hair’s elasticity, reducing the appearance of breakage and shredding. Peppermint oil stimulates the scalp for an invigorating experience. Leaves hair soft, manageable and shiny.

This is one of my go-to deep conditioners.  It is amazing and my hair loves it!  It is thick, easy to apply and smells lovely (same scent as the shampoo)
After shampooing I apply a generous amount of the masque from root to ends and comb through.  I usually cover my hair with a plastic cap for 30 minutes or sit under my hair steamer for 15 minutes.  After rinsing, my hair feels stronger, softer and shinier.

I first tried this masque a few months ago and now I’m completely hooked.  My hair is super dry and craves moisturising treatments. I follow the same routine with my deep treatments, sit under my steamer for 15 minutes or plastic cap for 30 minutes. After rinsing it off my hair feels hydrated, soft and my curls are more defined.  Added bonus is it smells ooh so good!
