British weather is so wet and humid I didn’t think a humidifier would be necessary therefore, I did a little research.
On average, we take 20,000 breaths per day and spend 87% of our time indoors – either at home or at the workplace.
However, breathing dry household air can cause serious problems.
Throughout summer, we spend most of our time outdoors, and we are generally healthy. On the other hand, as soon as the temperatures drop; the colds and flu’s begin. Most homes are equipped with central heating – but this actually aggravates the problem because bacteria breed in warm temperatures.
In some countries like Japan, they sleep with humidifiers on to improve their skin and health.

Setup:
Firstly, make sure you place the humidifier on a levelled surface; preferably on the floor in the corner of the room facing into the centre. It should be at least 1 meter away from every wall or person.
Instructions:
Pick up the tank using the red handle, turn it upside-down, unscrew the red knob, and fill to the top with cool tap water. Then replace the knob, turn it upright and place the container on the base, which will lock the unit with a click.
That’s it! Press the power button on, and a 3-minute cycle will start. You can use this time to try out the settings.
-Blue light indicates the humidifier is on, and the white light is the fan mode.
-You can adjust the fan speed, from 1-10.
The moisture from 30-70%
-AUTO. The machine will automatically detect the atmosphere of the room and adjust the humidity required to treat the air.
These past few weeks, we’ve found ourselves in a repetitive cycle of sickness; so perfectly clean air is heaven on earth.
My children have agreed to take it in turns to use the humidifier in their rooms. I found it intriguing that each room had different humidity percentages. For example, James room was extremely dry; the humidifier automatically adjusted the moisture to 64%

As for me, I’m generally hot all the time, and absolutely enjoyed sleeping with the humidifier on.
I wear contact lenses often, and one of the side effects is dry eyes and discomfort – so the mist is incredibly refreshing and soothing.
I have also noticed a difference in my skin. I normally wake up with dry lips and used hand cream throughout the day, but now I find that I need it less frequently and my skin feels comfortable.
A few questions I’ve been asked by friends/ family:
- Is it safe around children?
Yes! Completely, Dyson invested 37.5 million on this; so there are plenty of safety features to assure protection from the ultraviolet light. If the machine isn’t levelled or accidentally moved, it will switch itself off. The plug is low voltage and detachable.
- Is it noisy?
No, it’s almost silent. I leave it on overnight on Speed 1, auto in my toddler’s room, and he sleeps beautifully. They boys actually argue about who gets to keep the humidifier in their room.
- Will I have to use distilled water?
If the water in your area is particularly hard, you can use distilled water. Although it’ll be quite costly.
- Do I have to keep refilling the tank?
A single tank of water lasts up to 18 hours of continuous use on maximum humidity settings, but lasts longer on Automatic.
- Is it heavy?
It only weighs only 3.4kg.
- Can I add essential oils to the tank?
No, doing so will damage the machine. You can buy a good quality aromatherapy diffuser for that.
