Review: CurlyEllie Hair Care

As a mum to two curly haired kids, I know all about the tears over tangled tresses.

I was recently contacted by CurlyEllie to review their newly launched hair care range.

About CurlyEllie

CurlyEllie is a super-soothing and sustainable hair care range professionally developed by Zaina O’Halloran (a banker), the mother of Ellie (after whom the range is named).

Ellie’s hair is a combination of afro and straight and gets very tangled when washed which made both Ellie and her mum very miserable.  Off the shelf products didn’t help and made Ellie’s curls even more tangled.

Zaina started CurlyEllie because she believes that “no more tears” should mean exactly that, for children with even the most curly, unruly hair.

She turned to friends, family and social media to find the answer. She would routinely stop other parents of curly haired children and ask for advice on hair care. The only consistent theme in the responses she got was that nobody was that happy with the products they were using.

Determined mum of 4 (Ellie, her older brother and now 3 month old twin girls) decided to take matters into her own hands!

CurlyEllie is the result of months of research and a determination to make hair washing a pleasure for both parents and their curly-haired little ones.

As well as products that worked, she needed products that were as kind and as natural as possible, due to the eczema and allergies that Ellie suffered as a baby.

CurlyEllie launched on 19th April 2016 and is currently available at www.curlyellie.com and www.britishcurlies.co.uk

I was sent all 4 products in the range which includes:

Curlyellie gentle shampoo

Our luxurious and gentle shampoo cleanses, detangles and adds shine to curly hair, giving a soft, smooth and clean feeling! Using this shampoo prepares the hair for deep conditioning or light conditioning using CurlyEllie Curl Defining Leave-in Conditioner

I have a love/hate relationship with shampoos.  I love this shampoo. It cleans the hair without leaving it stripped.

I found I could even finger detangle while using it.  It also has a lovely scent.

curlyellie nourishing conditioner

CurlyEllie’s Nourishing Conditioner penetrates the hair shaft for powerful protection and repair leaving curly hair looking smoother and silkier.

I love, love…this conditioner.  It is nice and creamy with incredible slip.  As soon as I applied it to the hair, it literally melted any tangles away!

I was able to finger detangle easily without the need for combs or brushes.

It smells amazing and left the hair incredibly soft, smooth and shiny.

curlyellie moisturising detangling spray

An amazing, luxurious, moisturising and detangling Spray that gently detangles, defrizzes and moisturises curly hair to create soft, manageable curls. It quickly detangles knots whilst proving shine and, bounce and restoring much needed protein and nourishment to the hair.

I’m not really a fan of detangling sprays, I usually use cream based leave-in conditioners.  However I enjoyed using this product.  It can be used on wet or dry hair to detangle and refresh curls preparing it for the leave-in conditioner.  Like all the products it smells amazing.

curlyellie curl defining leave-in conditioner

Our light, non-greasy leave in conditioner binds moisture, helps tame frizz and provides nourishment to curly hair. Use as a moisturising styling cream to give your locks a daily dose of moisture.

After using the detangling spray, I applied the leave-in conditioner to style the hair.  I have to say I was a bit sceptical using just a leave-in as a styler.  My usual regimen includes using a leave-in and then a creamy butter or moisturiser as a styler.

This product really surprised me.  It worked really well on my daughter’s hair leaving her curls soft and defined.

I have to also mention that even though these products are aimed at curly-haired kids, I used them on my hair which is afro kinky and they worked brilliantly.  I’m completely sold on them now!

My curls were super defined, soft and shiny.  I was very surprised they gave me better results than some of my highly favoured staples.

Here are some pictures after using the products.
