Conventional household products are full of chemicals which are harmful to our health and the environment. As part of Organic September I will be sharing how to make your everyday household cleaning safe for your family, pets and the environment.
Greenscents is the brainchild of Peter and Christina Hawkes from Dulverton in Somerset, driven by skin allergies and aversion to synthetic perfumes. Finding nothing suitable on the market to cover all their needs and reasoning that other organic consumers would also want organic cleaning products, they set about making their own in 2011.
Creators of the only award-winning complete range of organic laundry and household products certified by The Soil Association, Cruelty Free International, Allergy UK and The Vegan Society, Peter and Christina use only organic certified essential oils to scent their amazingly effective and user-friendly products, with only Exmoor water for ultimate purity.
Every product in the Greenscents household and laundry range is certified organic with The Soil Association. This means that you can be assured that Greenscents products are made from organically farmed ingredients which are not genetically modified (GM) using no herbicides or synthetic fertilisers. All Greenscents products are free from:
- Chlorine bleaches
- Palm oil
- Synthetic or artificial perfumes
- Ethoxylation, sulphonation or propoxylation during production
- Animal ingredients
- MI and MCI
- GMO’s (genetically modified organisms) or SMO’s (synthetically modified organisms)
Greenscents bottles are made from biopolymer plastics which are produced from the waste products from sugarcane as opposed to conventional polyethylene, which traditionally contains fossil based raw materials such as oil or natural gas. Additionally, this biopolymer is also recyclable, which means landfill dumping is also greatly reduced.
Greenscents products include: washing up liquid, multi-surface spray, floor soap, laundry liquid, laundry conditioner, loo cleaner, creamy polish and all purpose castile soap.
Greenscents multi-surface sprays are genuine all-rounders. These sprays are ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and any other sealed surfaces, including wood and marble. Our unique formulation combines the best natural ingredients with organic essential oils to create a top performing product that will leave your surfaces sparkling! Greenscents multi-surface sprays come in our full range of fragrance blends, including Citrus, Minty, Herbal, Lavender and non-fragranced.

Greenscents multi-surface spray is easy to use. One squirt from the spray head (equivalent to 1 ml) can be applied to a damp cloth or direct to a sealed surface. Three squirts are enough to clean a full bath tub and taps.
The surface can then be wiped with a clean damp cloth or rinsed with water from the tap or shower head. Drying with a clean tea towel will remove any smears and create a great shine.
Don’t forget to enjoy the wonderful aromas as you clean!
This multi-surface spray is highly concentrated and does a brilliant job at cleaning surfaces. It tackles spills and grease on the cooker well, cleans work top surfaces without leaving any residue. I also use it in the bathroom and it removes limescale and soap scum effortlessly. I love the sweet and uplifting citrus fragrance as you clean.
Our organic formula enhanced with natural soapwort gives you excellent results. Our concentrated laundry liquid has been formulated to clean your clothes without the use of environmentally damaging chemicals and production processes but is just as effective as the leading brands.
Greenscents laundry liquid cares for even the most sensitive skin and our Nonscents range is ideal for babies and young children and those with allergies. Our packaging is completely sustainable and 100% recyclable too. Greenscents Laundry Liquid is now available in Lavender, Minty and Citrus blends together with Nonscents.

Greenscents laundry liquid is super-concentrated. Just 20-25 ml is enough for a standard 5-6 kg machine wash. Our customers say that Greenscents laundry liquid can be placed in the drawer or direct into the drum.
For hand washing, add 20-25 ml for approximately 6 litres of water. Greenscents Laundry Liquid can be used as a pre-wash stain remover but try on an inconspicuous area of fabric first. Leave undiluted liquid on the fabric for up to 15 minutes and then wash as desired. Greenscents laundry liquid can be used at all temperatures and is excellent for delicates, wool and silk.
I’ve used Earth Friendly laundry liquid for a number of years but I have to say I’m super impressed with this one from Greenscents. First of all it smells amazing! The formula is really concentrated and it does a great job even on stains. My kids have eczema so it’s essential we use products with no nasty chemicals or artificial fragrance. My washing always comes out clean and delicately scented.
A conditioning cream that is a pleasure to use. For comfortable clothes, softer linens and fluffy towels our laundry conditioner will give your fabrics a wonderful easy iron finish.

Greenscents laundry conditioner is super-concentrated. Just 20-25 ml is enough for a standard 5-6 kg machine wash. Our customers say that Greenscents laundry conditioner can be placed in the drawer or direct into the drum. Greenscents laundry conditioner can be used at all temperatures and is excellent for delicates, wool and silk. Please ensure that you follow the washing instructions on your clothes and fabrics and the instructions for using your washing machine. Dry your fabrics naturally or in a tumble dryer and then enjoy easy folding and ironing maybe with a hint of organic fragrance.
I love the wonderful calming aroma of Lavender. This conditioner is way thicker than the one I normally use from Ecover and the only downside is some remained in the drawer after the wash cycle ended. It worked better when I diluted with a little water.
My laundry was really soft to the touch after drying and the lavender scent lingered afterwards which is great.
Our best-selling washing up liquid is super concentrated, extremely tough on grease and baked-on food leftovers but still kind to your hands.

You only need a teaspoon (5 ml) of Greenscents washing up liquid for a sink full of washing up. A smaller bowl (6 litres of water) requires only half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) of washing up liquid. For best results, use one squirt of washing up liquid while running warm water into your sink or bowl. This will encourage more bubbles to form. Clean your crockery and utensils with a cloth or brush and rinse. Then admire your glistening glass and shining crockery. Dry with a linen cloth or tea towel.
I do all the cooking at home and I’m not a fan of washing up. This washing up liquid is amazing. Who knew washing up could be so therapeutic, now I look forward to washing up thanks to the calming lavender scent. It is super concentrated so you only need a small amount to get the job done. It lathers well, gets my dishes nice and clean and is also gentle on my hands.
Our floor soap is highly concentrated and is designed to be diluted in a bucket of hot water to give a gorgeous-smelling, highly effective clean for all your hard floors -whether ceramic tiles, vinyl, sealed wood or marble. Greenscents floor soap is available in Citrus, Herbal, or Nonscents blends and, thanks to its non-toxic recipe, is safe for use where pets and children roam.

Greenscents floor soap is designed to be used with a mop and bucket but this highly concentrated formula can be used for many household cleaning purposes.
To wash floors, add 10 ml of floor soap to a bucket of hot water (approximately 6 litres) and ensure that the product is mixed thoroughly.
Once the floor has been mopped there is no need to rinse – just allow to dry. Try your floor soap as a surface cleaner in bathrooms & kitchens, on skirting boards, window surrounds and radiators. Simply apply one squirt of floor soap to a cloth and wipe the surface clean.
This floor soap does an excellent job at cleaning my floors. I love the refreshing scent of lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary. It is also multi-purpose, I apply a small amount to a cleaning cloth and wipe away surfaces. Like all the other products it is highly concentrated so a little goes a long way and you’re getting good value for money.
If you haven’t made the switch to organic household products, why not try and replace just one of your everyday household products with an organic one instead.
