I struggle to find my perfect match when it comes to foundation. My goal is to find a foundation that matches my natural skin tone and evens out the overall appearance of my skin.

I’m a huge fan of Esse Probiotic skincare and I was super excited to hear they were launching probiotic foundations.

Even coverage available in ten shades, this organic, probiotic foundation features an SPF of 30. It spreads easily, looks natural and supports a healthy skin microbiome.

Esse Foundation 10 with SPF 30 (30ml | £57)

Microbiome:
With Esse’s LEVEL 3 BIOME+ technology this product contains tyndallized Lactobacillus bacteria that are capable of docking onto skin cells and strengthening barrier functioning by stimulating the secretion of antimicrobial peptides.

Active Treatment:

  • Prebiotics Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide and Inulin support beneficial microbes.
  • Probiotic extracts of Lactobacillus and Lactobacillus ferment both that bring microbiome balance.
  • With Aloe Vera and Jojoba Oil, this is a suitable foundations for sensitive skins.
  • Baobab Fruit Extract is an anti-oxidant and prebiotic.Tocopherol and Vitamin-C offer anti-oxidant protection and even skin tone.

I love the packaging. The foundation comes in a brown airless pump glass bottle with a silver cap. The pump is great for dispensing just what you need. Two pumps is enough for my whole face.

It comes in 10 different shades from light to dark. I chose F10 which is the darkest shade available. However I would have liked to have seen more shades for darker skin tones.

The consistency is rich, smooth and silky. It feels nourishing on the skin plus the addition of probiotics helps to balance your skin microbiome.

Although they say this foundation is for all skin types I think oilier skin types might find it too rich.

I have combo skin and using this during the summer months made my skin glowy and shiny after a few hours. Applying a small amount of powder on my skin before the application helped the foundation to appear less shiny.

This would be fab for me during the winter months when my skin gets especially dry.

The formula gives medium coverage and I love how smooth and dewy my skin looks. Applying it with a foundation brush gives a nice and smooth finish and it feels comfortable on the skin. I didn’t experience any breakouts or irritation using this.

Now unto a few things I would have liked. Firstly for the shades to have been classified by undertones. I still find that many brands that offer darker foundation shades are lacking in yellow and golden undertones and appear too ashy on dark skin.

This shade doesn’t have a great amount of yellow undertones and sadly leaves me with that dreaded ashy grey look. I had to fix it by using my INIKA organic baked mineral foundation to blend it out.

Here’s the finished look….

Overall I’m happy with this foundation, I just have to tweak it a little to work for me.

Have you tried Esse foundation?
