Review: Ooh! Oils of Heaven Organic Baobab Rejuvenating Face Oil

As promised here is my review of the Ooh! Organic Baobab Rejuvenating Face Oil I received in September’s LoveLula Beauty Box.

It is always intriguing to know facts about beauty oils.

What is Baobab oil?

Baobab (pronounced BEY-oh-Bab) oil is extracted from the seeds that bloom on the baobab tree (Adansonia digitata), an indigenous species found throughout the hot, arid regions of the African continent.

Baobab tree is sometimes referred to as the “upside-down tree”, in reference to its distinctive shape, with its extremely large trunk and it’s branches resemble roots sticking up.

Other common names include ‘bottle tree’, ‘the tree of life’, and ‘monkey bread tree’.  For most of the year, the tree is leafless, and looks very much like it has its roots sticking up in the air.

Baobab tree can grow to a huge 15m in circumference.  The gigantic trunks serve as water storage structures for the trees, a feature which enables them to survive the harsh annual drought seasons to which they are subjected.

It is rather fascinating to learn that the trunk can hold up to 100,000 litres of fresh water, which is enough for 2,857 showers or 6,250 glasses of water!

Baobab fruit is the only known fruit that dries on the tree brunches before it falls or is harvested.

The kidney-shaped seeds are found in the large capsule-like fruit which mature during the dry season and drop off the trees when ready to be harvested by people living in rural areas. The seeds are extracted by cracking the hard outer capsule. The extracted seeds are then washed to remove a powder coating and then air dried in the hot sun.

These seeds can be stored for many months before pressing. Baobab oil is made by a cold pressing process. A press, or expeller, ‘squeezes’ the oil from the baobab seed. The newly pressed oil is immediately filtered to help clarify the oil which is then bottled.

Ooh! oils of heaven organic baobab rejuvenating face oil

Organic Baobab oil is rich in Vitamins A,D, & E, as well as Omega 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids making it ideal as a rejuvenating oil for maintaining healthy skin.

I’ve always had problem skin, my skin has mood swings! Sometimes it’s oily, dry, flaky, inflammed…you name it.

What I struggle with most is dehydration.  I love this oil as it’s especially great for dry or dehydrated skin.

Baobab oil is deeply moisturising.  It instantly replenishes dry, cracked and dehydrated skin.  It also has soothing properties and is excellent for treating dandruff, dry scalp, psoriasis and relieves the symptoms of eczema.

The oil has deep golden yellow color and slightly nutty scent.

It spreads easily and absorbs into my skin seamlessly without leaving a greasy residue or clogging my pores.

This oil has become a staple of my skincare routine especially during the harsh winter weather with its cold and dry atmosphere.

After cleansing my face, I apply my moisturiser followed by 1-2 drops of baobab oil and massage it in.  It really helps seal in moisture and leaves my skin balanced.

It also makes a great base for my mineral foundation as I’ve noticed my makeup looks better without the usual flaky patches I normally get.

I also like to use this oil on my hair.  To help combat dry hair I add a few drops to my conditioner.  To tame my frizzy curly hair I also use it as a leave in as it conditions and nourishes my hair without weighing it down.  It leaves my hair soft and shiny.

Have you tried this oil before? Please feel free to share your thoughts with me.

Have a blessed weekend.
