Review – Esse Rich Moisturiser | Ultra Moisturiser

My skin is rapidly changing now that I’m in my 40s so its time to re-evaluate and reset my regimen. I’ve always had combination skin with occasional breakouts but now my biggest worries are dryness, dehydration and dullness.

Now my skin retains less moisture due to hormonal changes and lower estrogen levels.  Collagen, elasticity and levels of hyaluronic acid decrease in our bodies as we age. Our skin slowly loses water, has less firmless and wrinkles form.  It is estimated that by the time we reach our mid-40’s, the production of hyaluronic acid is roughly half of what the body requires for adequate moisture retention.

Sebum production also slows down so making sure my skin is fully hydrated is key. This cold, harsh winter has also taken its toll on my skin, so it was time to try out some new moisturisers.

ESSE Probiotic Skincare is one of my favourite brands, I regularly use their Refining cleanser and Deep Moisturiser so I decided to try out their Rich Moisturiser and Ultra Moisturiser

Esse rich moisturiser

A rich, luxurious moisturiser with probiotic extracts to optimise your skin’s microbiome. Marula oil & Olive leaf extract nourish and improve elasticity and offer anti-oxidant protection.

Esse Rich Moisturiser

This product contains prebiotics  to feed beneficial microbes at the expense of pathogens. A probiotic extract is added to shift microbial populations in your favour. It is also balanced at pH 4,5 to favour   the growth of synergistic species.

Active Treatment:

Marula Oil contains an extremely stable anti-oxidant and has high levels of Omega-6 essential fatty acids. Combined with the Omega-3 oils from Manketti and Yangu, the lipid and barrier function of the skin are improved.

Kigelia lightens sun spots, age spots and evens skin tone.

LMW Hyaluronic Acid is included for effective moisturisation and hydration.

– Anti-oxidants such as Olive Leaf Extract improve skin elasticity and have photo-protection properties, and Rooibos and Grapeseed help to fight external aggressors and slow ageing.

Apply each morning and evening after cleansing and toning, to face, neck, and décolleté.

My skin is loving this moisturiser, it delivers a much needed boost of hydration.  The packaging is great and it comes with a spatula to apply the cream.  The spatula is handy and more hygienic than having to use my fingers.

The consistency is just right and surprisingly it doesn’t feel greasy.  A little goes a long way and it absorbs quickly.  The scent is lovely.

My skin feels so soft, smooth and hydrated.  I’ve also noticed an improvement in my skin tone and texture which is great.

This cream is so lush and wonderfully hydrating for my skin without feeling heavy or greasy.  My thirsty skin literally drinks it up!  The texture is slightly richer than the Rich moisturiser and it has helped my skin during the harsh winter conditions.

It hydrates, softens and gives my skin a nice radiant glow.  The scent is lovely, the Patchouli and Ylang ylang definitely comes through.

I absolutely love both moisturisers.  They are pricey but you only need a small amount so it will last at least 2 months.

Have you tried any of Esse’s moisturisers?  Please feel free to share your experiences.
