Since going ‘natural’, I’ve tried my fair share of natural deodorants over the years and it’s been a case of trial and error. As I’ve mentioned before ‘deodorant’ is such a personal thing as your body chemistry plays a part. You simply have to try different types to find the one which suits you best.
If you are thinking of making the switch from conventional anti-perspirants /deodorants, then I have a brand for you to consider.
The brainchild of former beauty professional Catherine Acevedo, Indigenous Beauty offers a natural yet effective and eco-friendly alternative to existing beauty products that contain harsh and chemical-ridden formulas.
After becoming increasingly aware of the synthetic chemicals that are commonly found in leading brands and the harmful effects these can have on our health, Indigenous Beauty began its mission to launch handmade, toxic-free beauty products.
Indigenous Beauty is based in the quaint market town of Godalming, Surrey where all the products are handcrafted.
Their philosophy is simple…
the less ingredients you can use on your skin, the better.

Indigenous Beauty Natural Deodorant Cream, Refreshing Spearmint & Tea Tree
60ml | £11.99
Made from the highest quality organic ingredients, including Spearmint and Australian Tea Tree essential oils, this Natural Deodorant Cream leaves your underarms ready to stay fresh for the day ahead.
The combination of Spearmint essential oil and Tea Tree essential oil with its anti-fungal properties creates a truly invigorating scent. Bicarbonate of Soda and Arrowroot work to combat odour and help keep wetness at bay. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, and is very moisturising for skin. Unrefined Shea Butter and natural Vitamin E help soothe skin.
How to use:
Lightly apply a pea sized amount to each underarm, spreading evenly. Use on clean, dry skin and repeat when desired.
I haven’t always had a pleasant experience with ‘bicarbonate of soda’ based deodorants and you would think I would steer clear of them. I’ve had itching, burning and painful bumps on my armpits!
However I’ve come to realise that not all deodorants are created equal.
I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used this, I didn’t experience any irritation at all. It was easy to apply and absorbs well without any white residue or marks on my clothes. It has a lovely minty, fresh and cool scent.
I love how gentle this formula is on my skin, I’ve even used it after shaving which would have been a ‘no-no’and I didn’t experience any stinging.
It keeps me dry and the odour away, I regularly sniff my armpits throughout the day and thankfully no stinkiness.. I still smell clean and fresh.
The true test for me was a stressful day travelling into London with Annaliese for her hospital appointment, going from one department to the next and enduring the waiting room ‘long wait’.
After all that we had to endure the rush hour commute home on London Underground, standing on a packed tube train with people waving their stinky armpits in your face. Thankfully my deodorant worked brilliantly and kept me odour free, so the other commuters were lucky haha.
I have to say this is the best natural deodorant I’ve used so far and the great thing is I don’t have to reapply during the day so it will last…
I later purchased the Indigenous Beauty Natural Deodorant Soothing Lavender & Vanilla which smells amazing and works just as well.
